A detention pond is normally needed to meet the channel protection requirement. This slide shows a schematic of a conventional stormwater pond, which provides channel protection control and overbank flood control but not water quality control. Water quality control can easily be incorporated into the pond design or can be provided off-line with other appropriate treatment practices.
